Not currently. The Australian government only allow Social Workers and Psychologists to access medicare funding. However, I am an NDIS provider, so may be able to offer you supplemented rates through this scheme. Feel free to get in touch should you have any questions, or see our NDIS page for further details.
Not usually, however I have created 5 session packages to lower the price per session for those who may be experiencing financial hardship. My intention is to make this work accessible and sustainable. Should you have any requests about rates changes due to current financial stress, please contact me to discuss your situation.
As the Australian Government has been slow to adequately regulate the Counselling industry, qualifications amongst Counsellors can vary dramatically. Some practitioners practice as Counsellors without comprehensive qualifications or registration with regulatory bodies.
Counsellors who are registered with industry governing bodies are required to be degree qualified and undertake a specified number of yearly ongoing professional development hours, to ensure high current standards are maintained. This also means they are trained in numerous Counselling approaches, the core principles of child and brain development, ethics, grief, addiction and a holistic approach to the many contributors to good mental health.
Additionally, as part of their qualification, they will have taken part in considerable personal counselling of their own and be receiving regular clinical supervision from a highly experienced Senior Counsellor.
Coaches do not require any formal training. Coaching is usually more action/information oriented, with specific skills or goals as the core of the work. Qualified Counsellors are degree trained, with comprehensive study undertaken in many elements of mental health, human development, trauma, addiction, grief and loss, attachment, family systems, communication, relationships and numerous other facets the human experience. Counselling addresses issues such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, PTSD and relationship difficulties, supporting clients to resolve past traumas, develop new strategies and enhance self-awareness.
